Awareness and Education for Runners
As part of my faculty role at Minnesota State University, I am organizing an exciting initiative for the 2011 Mankato Marathon to provide awareness and education to runners. The Sport Psych Team, which will include roughly 20 and 30 trained professionals including sport psychology consultants, psychologists, sport psychologists, counselors, and graduate students in those areas who will help runners before, during, and after their race. The trained professionals provide brief interventions and mental toughness tips to help runner’s reach their potential.
We believe this is the only active sport psych team connected to a marathon in the United States. The Sport Psych Team is based off the successful Toronto Marathon Psyching Team, which I was a part of in 2010. If you are interested in being a member of The Sport Psych Team, please e-mail The Runner's Edge. I will be conducting a free training in the psychology of running the morning before the marathon (Friday, October 21, 2011) for all members of The Sport Psych Team.
Stay tuned for more updates on this initiative by visiting the Mankato Marathon. We are also looking for volunteers to be a member of the Sport Psych Team. If you are a sport psychology consultant, psychologist, sport psychologist, counselor, and or graduate student in one of those areas, join us in bringing awareness to the psychology of running while helping runners reach their potential!
